The All India Teachers Federation was founded on 15 August 1989 by a group of visionary educators who recognized the need for a unified platform to address the challenges facing the teaching community in post-independent India.

The founding members, comprising distinguished educationists from various states, came together in New Delhi to establish an organization that would transcend regional and institutional boundaries. The first national conference was held at the Constitution Club of India, with over 5,000 delegates from 22 states in attendance.
Throughout the 1990s, AITF grew exponentially, establishing state chapters across the country. The federation played a pivotal role in the implementation of the Right to Education Act and has been instrumental in shaping several national education policies.
Today, with a membership of over 25 lakh teachers and presence in all 36 states and union territories, AITF stands as a testament to the power of collective action in the teaching profession.
